Good Manners Refresher
This class is for dogs who have had some training in the past, but who are a little rusty and need to revisit the foundational skills. It goes at a faster pace than Good Manners 1, because it assumes you already have a working knowledge of some of the commands. However, it is not as advanced as Good Manners 2, which gets into more sophisticated skills and techniques.

The refresher course is also an excellent way to prepare your dog for agility training, which relies on solid understanding of staying, coming to you, lying down, creating strong eye contact, staying at your side, listening and following commands the first time, and so forth.

The course includes the following topics:

  • Life skills
    • Walking on leash politely (loose leash, at your side, no pulling)
    • Controlling impulses for jumping on people, barking, jumping out of your car door, growling, biting, chewing, aggressiveness towards other dogs or people, going through a doorway without permission, attacking the bowl as you pour the food, etc.
    • Dropping items, walking away from something, and avoiding it to begin with

  • Basic commands
    • Coming to you when called, sitting, staying, lying down, fetching, rolling over, and so forth. This includes when there are distactions, and for durations of time until given the release command.
